Trident Workforce Investment Board Mission Statement

The mission of the Trident Workforce Investment Board is to develop the region's workforce by providing high quality workforce development programs and services to our customers.

 

To accomplish our mission we've created a  market driven and user friendly workforce system investing workforce funding to recruit, prepare, and train workers with the skills needed to support existing industry and attract new industry to our region.

 


  • Group of Community Leaders, Business Owners, CEOs, CFOs, and Directors with optimum policy making authority for their organizations

  • Legislated August 1998 through the Workforce Investment Act

  • Appointed by Chief Elected Officials

Board Composition:

 

The Trident Workforce Investment Board is a 35 member board which is made up of private sector businesses, community based organizations, One Stop partners and representatives from the education system, the department of social services, and the employment security commission.  Of the 35 members, 51% of the members, as well as the executive officers must be from the private sector.

Role of the Board:

  • Provide fiscal and programmatic oversight

  • Establish policies to carry out the board’s workforce development mission

  • Create a local workforce vision and provide leadership

  • Act as a community convener to insure workforce concerns are addressed and collaborative relationships are formed

  • Serve as an information broker of value-added workforce intelligence

  • Promote the utilization of workforce development programs and services to business and industry

  • Connect with strategic relationships and alliances

  • Strategic plan creation as a base for ongoing continuous improvement

  • Resource mapping to identify programs, duplication, and opportunities

  • Deliver the strategic mission of the South Carolina Workforce Investment Board to the Trident region.

To increase the employment, retention, and earnings of workers, and as a result, improve the quality of the workforce, reduce welfare dependency, and enhance the productivity and competitiveness of the Nation.


 

Committee Structure

The Trident Workforce Investment Board has the following standing Committees:

 

Executive Committee

Assist staff in the development of long range strategies for the operation of mission-related activities and strategies of the Trident One Stop Career System. The Executive Committee can also make decisions on behalf of the TWIB. Members consist of the TWIB Chair, the Vice Chair, the Second Vice Chair, and the Chairs of all standing committees.

 

Economic Development Committee

Work closely with city, county, and state economic development agencies, as well as business leadership, to develop policy recommendations and partnerships which help develop and strengthen all economic development in the region, as well as oversee the administration of Incumbent Worker Training funds

 

One Stop Committee

Assist staff in developing and reviewing programs and services offered and the policies, practices and procedures of the Trident One Stop Career System, including local, state and federal compliance, as well as other concerns to maximize the agency’s administrative and organizational effectiveness.

 

Outreach Committee

Facilitate an increase in public awareness to both the citizens, businesses, and elected officials in the community regarding the purpose and mission of the Trident One Stop Career System.

 

Youth Advisory Council

Assist staff in developing and reviewing programs and services for youth between the ages of 14-21, as well as the policies, practices and procedures of the Trident One Stop Career System’s youth activities, including local, state and federal compliance, as required.
